Although On Floors might be just as appropriate, Operation Friendship is our way of providing affordable accomodation for youth groups while they stay at an MAYC event. Over the course of the 53 years that the MAYC National Event was held in London, loads of local churches helped accomodate those travelling down from elsewhere in the country; now it's the turn of Birmingham Churches to return the favour...
If you belong to a church within a 30 minute drive of the NEC, and would be able to offer minimal accomodation in the form of supper (for which you will be reimbursed) and a church hall floor to kip on, then we urgently need to hear from you; we need 5000 places to accomodate everyone!
Want to come to BREAKOUT? Not a member of a youth group? Don't worry, come on your own!
If you're over 16 and fancy experiencing the fun and fellowship of BREAKOUT, then come on down; the journey will be the only time you are on your own all weekend!
All who are coming down on their own will be together in a local church (airbeds and sleeping bags needed) with a representative from our team who will be available to guide you through the weekend's events.
If you are interested, get in touch with Louise Bamford or contact the MAYC office.
We hope to see you there!
Some questions to start thinking about for Operation Friendship churches:
- How many people can our church comfortably sleep (preferably male & female in separate sleeping areas)?
- Do we have enough proper washing facilities?
- In what other ways will our church members be taking part?
- What ecumenical links can we use to expand the interest in BREAKOUT and Operation Friendship?
- Do we have young people locally who will want to stay at the church as well?
If you think you would be able to help, please contact Mark Conlon or Richard Bates, and register your church today.
